Faqs

In general, most scans are completed in about 20-25 minutes for each area.

If you are claustrophobic or nervous, please don’t worry- our MRI extremity scanner is much smaller and quieter than a full body MRI scanner. Only the area to be scanned will be placed inside the scanner.

MRI is very safe. There are no health risks associated with the magnetic field or the radio waves used by the machine. MRI uses no ionising radiation. Clients with certain implants such as pacemakers, spinal stimulators, certain types of aneurysm clips, metal in the eyes, and other conditions, require special consideration prior to an MRI scan. When you make your appointment, please let us know if you have any of these.

Your images will be examined by a Consultant Radiologist. A Radiologist is a highly trained Doctor who specialises in imaging to provide a diagnosis. Our Radiologist’s will look at all of the images from your scan and provide a detailed report of the findings, usually within days of it being completed. The results will be sent to you by email.

You must be aged 18 and above to refer yourself or aged 16 and above with a parent/guardian’s consent and presence.

You must have a clear indication for your scan as we do not provide health screening.

Visit the ‘what you need to know’ section and all payments details are listed there.

Your MRI scan will be conducted by a technician who will greet you and check your paperwork before guiding you into the scanning room, once inside the room you will be asked to lie on your back or side depending on the area that we are scanning. We will make you comfortable because it’s important to keep still during the scan.

During your scan there may be some noises but these are quiet and you do not need to wear headphones or earplugs. We will keep you informed throughout the whole time you are in the scanner to tell you how long is left and how you are doing. You will never be left on your own.

Prior to your scan at MRI Jersey, you will be asked to complete a safety screening form which includes questions regarding some medical conditions which may make an MRI scan inadvisable. Please let us know if you have any of the following:-

  • Cardiac pacemaker, defibrillator or any other heart implant;
  • Implanted electronic devices or electronic and magnetic activated implants;
  • Artificial heart valves or coronary stents;
  • Implanted drug infusion ports;
  • Artificial limbs or metallic joint prosthetics;
  • Implanted nerve stimulators;
  • Metal pins, screws, plates or surgical staples;
  • Surgical clips;
  • Neuro and bone stimulators; and
  • Infusion pumps.

In addition to the above, please tell us if:-

  • You are pregnant or could be pregnant;
  • You have had recent surgery; and
  • There is a possibility of metallic fragments in your eyes.

We do not allow phones or any other electronic devices to be taken into the MRI scanning room as they may be affected by the static magnetic field. We would recommend you leave your mobile phone and personal belongings at home or safely locked in your vehicle. We do have lockers but we do not accept responsibility for personal items.

We understand that things come up and you may need to change or cancel your appointment. Please let us know at the earliest convenience by calling 01534 888099 to enable us the chance to offer somebody else your appointment.
